English Drill for Middle School Pack 6

Diposting oleh Unknown on Sabtu, 12 Februari 2011

When it comes to preparing for exams most students run around collecting notes and important questions when the exam is right around the corner. This practice is something that has always been discouraged not only because it's pointless, since those have the notes are too busy studying from them to lend them, but also because last minute studies never help a student actually learn anything.

There are 9 simple rule which, if followed, can lead to a hassle free exam and an excellent result.
Discipline: This is something that needs to be inculcated from a young age. It helps with exam preparation because when you sit down with mock question papers the first thing you tend to do is be relaxed and give yourself extra time at the end to finish the paper. Giving yourself extra time will ensure that you remain slow at answering so it is best to avoid that. The second thing that you do is start playing with electronics in the middle of the paper. So keep all video games, mobile phones, TV's, mp3 players, etc. away from you.
Learning: When you take practice tests, class tests, pop quizzes, etc. you may not perform very well every single time. If you dwell on the result too long, you will just disappoint yourself.
Breaks: You are not likely to get a break when you go for the actual exam so don't get yourself into that habit. Finish what you are doing before taking a break.
Attention to detail: Almost every student has lost marks here and there due to silly mistakes. Read questions carefully and answer even more carefully. This helps the most when it comes to exams where you have to answer on OMR sheets. The scary thing about answering on OMR sheets are two scenario's.
1. Sometimes you don't see that question number properly and mark the answer of question 5 in question 6. That's marks for one right question gone.
2. The second scenario is the really scary one. Sometimes student will not read the question numbers at all and mark one answer under the wrong question. This starts a domino affect which makes the student mark the rest of the answers also wrong.
Time management: How often is it that you went for and exam and came out complaining that you did not have enough time to finish the entire paper. Well the fact is that there is always time to finish the entire paper. You just need to practice a bit more. There are steps you can take to save time and methods you can apply to gain time. For example, once you get the question papers and answer sheets, make sure you fill in all the details before you beginning the test since leaving it would only cause you to fill it in a hurry at the end of the exam, something that almost always causes errors in personal details to crop up.
Analysis: When you study something, try to figure out how and why it happens that way. Don't run to a teacher in the beginning itself. This will teach you how to improve yourself and sharpen the mind. When it comes to taking mock tests always remember to get your papers analysed by your teachers since they are the best people to tell you where you are going wrong.
Group study: an excellent practice when the term starts but not an advisable one near the end of the term. When you are studying in a group there are multiple people all studying with you. Some of them will be busy discussing something or the other and that too topics that you are not studying or topics that you have already studied using different methods. This will lead to confusion and distraction, both of which you don't need so close to exams.
Procrastination: very often students tend to act as though they have all the time in the world to get their studies done. This is a big mistake to make and especially in high school and beyond. Get things done at the right time and you will see that you have time for everything else too. This is where making a schedule would help. Recreation: We have all seen student go to write an exam and crack when the question paper is put in front of them. Sometimes we wonder why that happened and that too to a student who was always regular at studies. The answer is stress. You must concentrate on your studies but not to such an extent that you forget to have fun also.
Moral of the story; don't give life a chance to leave you behind.
