Street art: Andrew takes to the street and focuses his lens on what he finds and the result is an endlessly fascinating series of unique structures

Brave: Using Nikon D-80 and D-90 cameras and special lenses, Andrew braved the Russian cold to capture what he found in the Moscow environment

On the street: Andrew says the images are particularly powerful because 'pictures are not made in the studio, on the street in the frost'

Charged: Once the liquid is completely frozen, the sharp tip of the drop attracts water vapor in the air, much like a sharp metal lightning rod attracts electrical charges

Isu Kiamat Merebak, Masyarakat Serbia Pilih Sembunyi di Gunung

Jika akhir dunia memang terjadi pada Jumat ini, maka penduduk di pegunungan Serbia telah memiliki tempat persembunyian yang terbaik.

Seperti yang dikutip dari reuters Jumat (21/21/2012), tempat tersebut adalah Gunung Rtanj, yang berada sekitar 250 km sebelah timur ibukota Beograd, menuju Bulgaria. Gunung Rtanj merupakan bagian dari daerah pegunungan di Serbia yang terkenal dengan teh herbal, alam murni dan udara bersih.

"Tempat kami telah dipesan untuk tanggal 20 sampai 23 Desember ini. Kami juga mengadakan konvensi New Age dan para tamu akan hadir karena dunia dikabarkan akan kiamat," ujat Nebojsa Gajic, manajer dari Hotel Communist-Era Millenium yang berada di lereng Gunung Rtanj, Serbia.

Penduduk sekitar mengklaim bahwa tempat ini adalah lokasi terbaik agar selamat dari bencana kiamat yang menurut mitos suku Maya kuno akan datang pada 21 Desember ini. gunug yang membentuk seperti piramida ini diyakini merupakan tempat yang terbaik untuk bersembunyi apabila terjadi kiamat pada Jumat ini.

 

Seperti desa Pyrenean Bugarach di Perancis yang dijaga oleh gunung magis, Gunung Rtanj ini juga menawarkan keselamatan dari bencana kiamat yang akan terjadi hari ini. Selain itu warga setempat juga mengatakan mereka kebanjiran pesanan dari Serbia dan luar negeri.

"Orang-orang bahkan menelepon dari Amerika Serikat dan kami harus mengatakan 'Tidak' Aku bahkan tidak bisa mendapatkan ruang untuk orangtua dan saudara saya," ujar Darko Jovic, manajer Hotel Balasevic.

Harian Serbia Blic melaporkan, tarif untuk akomodasi di lokasi ini telah mencapai hingga 500 euro atau sekitar 660 US Dolar per-malam. Menurut laporan awak media yang berada di Gunung Rtanj, daerah tersebut tampak tenang, tetapi buldozer saat ini sedang membersihkan jalanan dari salju dalam persiapan untuk menyambut orang-orang yang ingin 'bersembunyi'.

The national park is named after its two mountains, Mount Semeru (the highest in Java) and Mount Bromo (the most popular), and the Tengger people who inhabit the area. The park also includes large areas, which are very lush, fed by rivers from the high tops. The medium elevations are clad with much thinner forest before this gives way to the barren plateau and peaks.

This shot was photographed in Raja Ampat, Indonesia, on a small island where I was diving on a wall. I came across a lionfish and photographed him vertically. I spent quite some time waiting for him to turn around. Lionfish are notorious for keeping their backs and poisonous spines toward their adversaries.

Ketika Fenomena Padang Bunga Es di Laut Arktik Diabadikan.. KEREN !!!

Mahasiswa pascasarjana University of Washington, Amerika Serikat, Jeff Bowman, dan profesornya, Jody Deming, berhasil mengabadikan fenomena padang bunga es di Arktika. Foto diambil saat keduanya tengah mengerjakan proyek gabungan antara ilmu kelautan, mikrobiologi, dan pengetahuan planet pada akhir tahun 2011.
Bayangkan bunga lotus yang mengapung tersebar di atas permukaan danau. Lebih kurang seperti itulah fenomena padang bunga es ini terlihat. Perbedaannya, padang bunga es ini mengambang di atas laut dingin menusuk tulang, terbentuk di suhu minus 22 derajat celsius.

Bentuknya kecil dan meruncing, diketahui di sini juga merupakan tempat hidup mikro-organisme. Bahkan lebih padat dibanding mikro-organisme yang hidup di bawah air beku Laut Arktik, menjadikannya sebagai bagian penting dari ekosistem lokasi ini.

Bunga es ini diketahui juga memproduksi bahan kimia seperti formaldehid yang bisa menjadi petunjuk mengenai asal-usul kehidupan di Bumi. Untuk investigasi lebih lanjut, Bowman dan Deming membawa sampel bunga es ini ke laboratorium di University of Washington. (Zika Zakiya/National Geographic Indonesia)
